On Thursday 20th June Mercedes and Pirelli will find themselves in front of the International Tribunal as they try to get to the bottom of the ‘private’ 1000km test held after the Spanish Grand Prix. It’s vital for the IT to dole out a fitting and fair punishment, as too light a punishment could be detrimental to the sport. So it has come to this. Before the tribunal is decided tomorrow in Paris, both myself and Rosie thought it would be good to look at both ends of the spectrum in terms of punishment for Mercedes and Pirelli. Or

Wow, I for one did not predict that the Mercedes and Pirelli tyre saga could take such a monumental turn. In fact it has been completely fallen on its head, and the reason the matter has now been taken to the International Tribunal is certainly very clear. Given the conversations I had yesterday regarding the matter, I thought it was best to put it all down on paper – so here we are. Whilst so far, the media has portrayed the tyre test story as a fight between the FIA and Pirelli/Mercedes due to the two parties supposedly breaking

At a time when most teenagers were ready to start university having just finished their A-Levels, Sebastian Vettel was earning his first points in Formula 1, in a BMW Sauber at the 2007 United States Grand Prix. At the age of just 19 years 349 days, Vettel in his first ever Formula 1 start would go on to capture 8th place – sitting in for the injured Robert Kubica. This start to an incredible journey, which has now taken him to 3 World Championships and total domination in Formula 1 has been met by harsh criticism by many Formula

Honda –Allison? Wow, what a bombshell this was to drop today. Out of nowhere it appears Honda are set to appoint James Allison as part of their development team ahead of the 2015 Formula 1 season, when we will see their iconic name plastered on the side of an F1 car again. Reports from Luis Vasconelos, part of a Finnish publication - Turun Sanomat, state: “According to our sources, Allison has accepted the [Honda] offer, and leads to a small group of engineers who will produce a car that Honda’s will use to test their new turbo engine with” Now

We Will Get Testing In 2014 Common sense may prevail at last. I say that because we are potentially now only 1 step away from seeing limited in season testing returning to Formula 1 during 2014, and with it a solid base for all teams to gather a much better understanding of the new regulations that come into force next year. Now these plans were formally discussed by Formula 1’s strategy group which consists of certain teams (Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren, Lotus and Williams) alongside the commercial rights holder (Bernie) and the FIA in Monaco. Thanks to Adam

Vettel Triumphs Again By the age of 26, Sebastian Vettel could be a 4 times WDC. That is an incredible statistic when you take into consideration Schumacher did not achieve that same feat until the age of 31, and Prost until the age of 38 in 1993. But based on the performance he produced on Sunday it surely now becomes an ominous prospect, as for the first time this season both he and the RB9 were able to push 100% from lights to flag showing the rest of the grid, just how competitive the pair really are when in

What a weekend Canada is going to be. I am currently jumping up and down in excitement over the team’s press conference tomorrow, and I really do hope the mainstream media ask the questions that matter, not vaguely dip their toes into the water. Tomorrow we see Paul Hembrey, Ross Brawn, Christian Horner, Stefano Domenicalli, along with Monisha Kaltenborn and Martin Whitmarsh. But it is the first four which will dominate proceedings, as it was announced yesterday evening that Mercedes and Pireilli will both be taken to the International Tribunal over the alleged Barcelona tyre test. In the same statement

Sergio Perez I can imagine is possibly one of the most despised figures in the paddock by many right now. Ever since he burst on to the scene in 2011 with Sauber, the Mexican has constantly reminded us of his “bolshie” and fiery temperament behind the wheel of an F1 car. It is in fact rather ironic that one of the best drivers playing the tyre conservation game in the paddock is also one of the most aggressive drivers to emerge in recent years – fiercely defending and attacking his part of the tarmac in quite a unique fashion.

The Williams and Mercedes engine deal had been an open kept secret in Formula 1 for some weeks. We finally got the confirmation we needed a couple of days ago and now Williams are now staring down the barrel of their 5th engine manufacturer in 10 years, after BMW, Toyota, Cosworth and Renault. It came as no surprise given that Toto Wolff has got his finger in both pies still. Having such an influential role at Mercedes must have given him room to throw his weight around somewhat when it came to creating a “customer relationship” for 2014 with Williams.

Some things do make me chuckle when it comes to the Formula 1 media. Today was no exception, and I read something which really did tickle me. The mainstream media outlets do like to blow subjects right out of proportion, the test-gate scandal included and it makes for quite amusing reading when in essence subjects are nowhere near as dramatic as they are made out to be. The latest one today happened to be about Michael Schumacher, and how miraculously after such a strong start to the season by Nico Rosberg, many people may have jumped to conclusions when it
